What do you want to be when you grow up? Police Officer!

07.10.2021

Even as a child, you always found police officers quite impressive and imagined the most adventurous events they experienced every day. Maybe there were also those Sundays when you (begrudgingly ;) ) watched "Tatort" with your parents – not the Navy CIS Special Team – but it was still exciting!

The opportunities that a career with the police offers are far more amazing, exciting, and interesting than one could have imagined! To get a better overview, we took a closer look.

Middle Service

In the middle police service, with your completed training, you'll mostly be on standby and patrolling as a police officer. Your tasks could range from traffic controls, documenting accidents, to investigating crimes. In this position, you are likely very mobile, and it's important for you that you can work for the greater good.

Senior Service

Just completed your Fachhochschulreife (advanced technical college entrance qualification)? Then this could be of interest to you: You can study for the so-called senior police service at the police, primarily at police universities, combined with various practical components that will prepare you perfectly for your active service after graduation. Your studies end with a Bachelor's degree.

The combination of theory and practice requires not just brains – who would have thought it – but also muscles 💪 – but most importantly, both: because in daily life, whether on duty or in administrative service, you’ll need both.

There are many different areas you can focus on later. If you're interested in leading a team, perhaps in operations or in certain departments, then this is definitely exciting for you. Whether it's your duty in shift services or with the criminal police – you often have the opportunity to qualify for other areas and can later transfer to different units.

The police isn’t just about the visible parts – there’s a lot of “behind the scenes” work, such as personnel management, IT, managing finances, and other services. If you find a knack for these areas, there are perfect roles for you, such as a government inspector.

Higher Service

Your Bachelor’s degree can of course be continued with a Master’s degree for the higher police service, qualifying you for more senior positions.

This involves two more years of study at a police university. You’ve already completed your Bachelor’s degree and are thus already a police officer or candidate for higher service.

If you aim high and especially want to work at the top of large agencies, this is your chance! The goal of your studies is to qualify for leading larger police stations, taking on special tasks in central authorities, or getting involved in training and development for the police.
