Good Music for Studying

If you've ever searched for study music on YouTube, you’ve probably come across that image of a girl writing in her notebook with headphones on, looking out the window every few minutes. If not, here's our first tip for you.

Lofi Girl - beats to relax/study to

If you’re tired of the same old Lofi beats and want to try something new, or if you’re wondering whether music can really have a positive effect on your studying, you’re in the right place.

Should You Listen to Music While Studying?

Yes, many studies even recommend it. Music can not only create a relaxing and calming atmosphere, but it can also positively impact concentration and memory. Of course, the music should be something you can play in the background without it being distracting.

What Music is Best for Studying?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, as everyone has different tastes. However, you should stick to instrumental music, as vocals and lyrics can be too distracting. Have you ever solved math problems while singing along to a song? If it worked well, maybe you should skip a few classes. ;)

Spotify conducted a study in 2013 and found that the ideal study tracks have 50 to 80 beats per minute.

What doesn’t work are fast, heavy, or overly varied tunes. Imagine trying to read a book while your favorite song builds up to a beat drop in the background. Instant distraction and loss of focus. That’s what you want to avoid.

Now, you might think that only slow and monotonous music would be effective, but that’s a misunderstanding. While 50 to 80 beats per minute is relatively slow, it’s not slow enough to put you to sleep after 10 minutes. This is where Lofi beats come in—they hit the sweet spot.

Study Playlists Across Different Music Genres

For those who want to try out different styles, we’ve put together a little list for you.

Does it Have to Be Music?

Not necessarily! The constant sound of rain, occasionally interrupted by thunder, can also help you concentrate. This background sound can drown out sudden distractions like a barking dog in the neighborhood and generally create a more pleasant atmosphere.

We hope you enjoy browsing through these options and wish you success as you test them out. 😊
