Who doesn’t know it? The exams are announced well in advance, and you think you have soooo much time left to study. And then suddenly – it’s two days before the exam. How did that happen so quickly?

Panic sets in, and now you need to cram as much as possible into your head. But how?

Here, we reveal the five best tips on how to memorize study material quickly and effectively. Let’s get started, we’re running out of time!

Tip 1 – Break Down Information

Some topics are very extensive, and it feels like the information is overwhelming you. However, when you break down this "big chunk" of information, it often looks much more manageable. So, first get an overview and then split the topic into several smaller topics.

Tip 2 – Learn with All Your Senses

Sure, you can sit quietly at your desk and read and repeat everything over and over again. But maybe it works better if you take your study sheet, walk around the room, and read the text aloud. That way, you don’t just see the information in front of you, but also hear it spoken. This helps to internalize the study material faster. Moreover, movement helps with better learning. Of course, you shouldn’t run a marathon, just walk slowly around your room. Additionally, visualizing information, such as creating mind maps, can also help. Use different colors. You can even distribute sticky notes with information around your room, and you’ll see them while walking by.

Tip 3 – Repetition

After reading a section and trying to internalize it, don’t immediately start with the next one. Take a short break and then repeat the previous section. You’ll realize that not everything is in place yet. So, better repeat a few times than overwhelm your brain with new study material.

Tip 4 – Eliminate Distractions for Focused Learning

"Okay, it’s time to study – oh, what’s that new video on TikTok, I haven’t seen it before…" Yes, it’s tempting, but your smartphone is one of the biggest obstacles to focused studying. It’s best to turn it off completely and put it in another room. If you just turn it over but leave it beside you, it takes a lot of willpower to not flip it over constantly and check for new messages. Also, turn off the TV and radio to help you memorize better.

Tip 5 – Use Your Time Wisely!

Starting to clean up before studying? Sure, a good study environment is important. If you have some extra time, this is definitely helpful. But if you need every second, skip the cleaning and get right to work. Take your study sheets to bed with you at night or in the bus in the morning on your way to school.

So, with these tips, nothing should go wrong. And to avoid panic before the next test, make sure to add your study dates to the scoolio app and set reminders for yourself. That way, you won’t forget when it’s time to start studying. :)
